New Unit-Consistent Intermediate Inequality Indices
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper introduces a class of intermediate inequality indices, ( ) , I δ π , that is at the same time ray-invariant and unit-consistent. These measures permit us to keep some of the good properties of Krtscha’s (1994) index while keeping the same “centrist” attitude whatever the income increase is. In doing so, we approach the intermediate inequality concept suggested by Del Río and Ruiz-Castillo (2000) and generalize it in order to extend the range of income distributions which are comparable according to the rayinvariance criterion. Rankings of Income Distributions: A Note on Intermediate Inequality Indices
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the advantages and disadvantages of several intermediate inequality measures, paying special attention to whether inequality rankings between income distributions are affected by the monetary units in which incomes are expressed. In particular, we show why one of the most popular intermediate inequality approaches, that proposed by Bossert and Pfingsten (...
متن کاملOn a Family of Achievement and Shortfall Inequality Indices.
This paper identifies a family of absolute consistent inequality indices using a weakly decomposable postulate suggested by Ebert. Because one member employs an Atkinson type aggregation we refer to it as the Atkinson index of consistent inequality. A second member of this family parallels the Kolm index of inequality. Two innovative features of these indices are that no specific structure is i...
متن کاملOpportunity Inequality and its Effects on Economic Growth and Per Capita GDP
Opportunity inequality and its relationship with economic growth is a concept to which not enough attention has been paid in the previous studies. This study attempts to investigate the effects of opportunity inequality index on economic growth in 15 developing and 15 developed countries over the years 1995-2015. Accordingly, the mean group (MG) estimator within the framework of panel data was ...
متن کاملMobility, Inequality, and Horizontal Equity
Mobility implies initial and final distributions and a transition process linking the observations of these two distributions. An inequality index describes properties of the intitial or final distribution. A mobility index describes the transition. In most cases, mobility indices have been developed using properties of transition matrices independently of the concepts of inequality and equity ...
متن کاملMeasuring group disadvantage with indices based on relative distributions
A long literature on between-group inequality in Social Science and Statistics has developed statistical tools (indices and tests) in order to measure the extent of inequality of opportunity or, more narrowly, gender inequality. In this paper I propose a family of new indices which measure and are sensitive to inequality between pairs of groups whenever that inequality implies disadvantage for ...
